welcome

I would like to welcome two new people to this little email group: Rana and Brett. (applause) Please feel free to contribute at any time!

Obama's "Accidental" Foreign Policy- perhaps originally formulated out of a need to draw contrasts w/ Clinton through this long primary season, Obama has settled on a bold foreign policy that refuses to abide by longstanding taboos

Gossip:
Senator Clinton has directly told Senator Obama that she wants to be his vice presidential nominee, and that Senator Obama politely but straightforwardly and irrevocably said "no." Obama is going to pick his own running mate based on his own criteria and vetting process.
Based on unnamed sources, so take w/ the appropriate grain of salt.

Obama's viral email problem
my favorite bit:
One features a made-up quote in which Obama "explains" why he purportedly doesn't place his hand over his heart during the national anthem.

"There are a lot of people in the world to whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression," the e-mail quotes Obama as saying. "And the anthem itself conveys a war-like message."

Obama has never said such a thing.

So Clinton likened her attempts to get the FL delegates seated to the struggle to free the slaves and the suffrage momement. (Granted, before FL became pivotal for her election strategy she had no problem with their disqualification for breaking DNC rules.) Some bloggers weigh in...

Jonathan Chait slams Hillary's "Florida gambit"

Josh Marshall adds:
She is embarking on a gambit that is uncertain in its result and simply breathtaking in its cynicism.
What she's doing is not securing her the nomination. Rather, she's gunning up a lot of her supporters to believe that the nomination was stolen from her -- a belief many won't soon abandon. And that on the basis of rationales and arguments there's every reason to think she doesn't even believe in.
