blizzard of lies

Just a few things:

Today's must-read
is from George Will, if only because it's George Will saying it (h/t Molly):

Under the pressure of the financial crisis, one presidential candidate is behaving like a flustered rookie playing in a league too high. It is not Barack Obama.

It is arguable that, because of his inexperience, Obama is not ready for the presidency. It is arguable that McCain, because of his boiling moralism and bottomless reservoir of certitudes, is not suited to the presidency. Unreadiness can be corrected, although perhaps at great cost, by experience. Can a dismaying temperament be fixed?

Paul Waldman argues that we are witnessing a rare moment of opportunity to reshape American politics; If Obama can take advantage of it he could be our era's FDR.

Finally the McCain camp's hissy fit the other day prompted the NYT to re-check their facts, only to find more evidence of lying. Insert laugh from Nelson (of the Simpsons): "Ha-ha."
